I just started, still haven't shot a round. Did lessons and driving range, and so far it's pretty ugly. My dad swore off golf from the time I was about 4 until I was 25. So I never hit a ball until a month ago. I wish I had more time to learn, but wife and toddler slow that down. Anyway, I'm having fun, and I stink... that is all.

i had an 80 over the weekend. 4 birdies over a 7 hole stretch on the back nine. i was really in a groove on the back. 43 on the front and 37 on the back. here's hoping that i break 80 this weekend. my dad beat me again with a 70, d'oh.

Sweet run on the back. Must have been fun when < 80 started becoming a real possiblity after not so early on. Pops has got game !
I'm heading out tomorrow. Mid 80s temps in Aug here in unheard of and too good to pass up.

dad's got game, plenty to spare. we played yesterday. he had a 69 with 4 birdies in a 5 hole stretch in the middle of the round. he beat me again, i had a 87. which really hurt. i was 1 under thru the first 6 and was beating him. then everything went to hell, i couldn't do anything right. the only good shot i hit on the last 12 holes was on 18. a par five, with a pond in front, i hit a 1 iron from 250 onto the green. i hope i play better next time.

Played today...96. Yeah I live in Florida - so I try to keep my score consistent with the temperature. Of course when winter comes I should be back down in the high 70s low 80s...sike. I'm a hacker, but damn, it's still so much fun.

Worked at a course over summer vacation as a bag drop guy (high school teacher). Can't beat free golf! Made a few extra bucks and worked on my game...clearly, I need more work...

Go Tiger.

just when I thought I may never master any part of this game, it appears I have finally mastered the art of the 3 putt.
birdie putts are bankable bogeys these days. ;(

Here's the shot by shot:

I pulled out the Cobra driver and was aiming left all day because I have finally mastered the fade to work for me. The ball started up the left side and faded back toward the middle of the two oak trees...it was a solid and well placed drive. I'm about half way to my ball and I realize that there is a temporary green which cuts about 40 yards off of the hole and I'm about 40 feet from it. I pull out the 58 degree (actually my favorite loft) because I don't want to run it up with the green being bumpy and in terrible shape. I hit the ball dead straight at the cup (which is a temporary bucket at least 6 inches wide), bounced twice and rolled in.

The score card only shows the eagle not the gimp green I conquered!

I hear ya. I played a couple weeks ago. Probably played my best round ever tee-to-green. Unfortunately couldn't make a putt to save my life. You said it best...birdie putts were bankable bogeys... from just about anywhere on the green too.

That's the best approach shot I've seen on that hole to date. high tear drop 9 iron over the water to about 6 feet left of the stick, hits soft and uses the slight slope to trickle right to about 3 1/2 feet. highlight material !

Only eagled a handful of times. Best was with my dad playing in the group ahead of us. They were watching as I stroked a towering 5 iron about 180 yards ....... 3 bounces and a roll into the cup.

I dropped about a half gallon of beer infused pee on the second hole- a beatufil stream of golden warmth- dropped that puddle a few inches from a spruce.
