You know if the 4th wasn't my birthday I'd be in for this one. Unfortunately it is, and I will have drinks being force-fed to me by my bastard friends at one of my local watering holes. Enjoy!

Friends taking you out for your birthday, ha! We all know that the Trans Siberian Orchestra must be in town.

It's been a while, hasn't it? :)

you coming to the dinner?

Highly unlikely. While I'd love to I'm out of town every Mon-Thu right now, and Fridays are for dinner with family. If it turns out that the kids have stuff planned without me I'll be there in a heartbeat.

Just came across this (would help if I had been anywhere near this forum in the last 45 days)!

My diet allows me to cheat every other weekend ... and since the weekend before this is Thanksgiving ... and the weekend after this is my company's Holiday Party, I'm out.

If anyone wants to put something like this together again in the future, and I am not active in the forum, please PM me. I have lots of great wine that I'd love to share, and this would be soooo up my alley!

seems like we'll be doing a free-for-all...i will be bringing up 2 bottles i think. If we wanted to do the single-blind tasting with the prizes, we should decide soon. Each person pays an additional $40 - which goes to buy some prizes (i.e. badass wine). prizes are awarded to the person who brought the WOTN and also to the person that most accurately tasted the wine (varietal, region, etc - we can figure this part out later if there's interest).

Not for this, but what would be a blast is to do this idea with one super grand prize...So we get an offline with 15 people, everyone tosses in $50 and we get Ian to come along and bring a $750 bottle of his choosing. Do it as all blinds, and the person who does the best walks with the killer bottle.

Then again, I could just give Julius $50 and save myself a trip into the city.

Another idea I pitched once is that everyone brings two bottles - one blind to taste, and one to go up as a prize. The person who names the most blind takes home a mixed case of goodies hand selected by everyone else.

I like both of those ideas - i'd be down for incorporating either of those into December's tasting.
