"The 2020 de Sales is composed of 79% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 7% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it rolls out with fragrant notes of juicy black plums and blueberry preserves, followed by hints of licorice and tar with a touch of lavender. The full-bodied palate is packed with black fruit preserves and savory accents, supported by plush, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, leading to a finish of great length and freshness on this impressive wine."

94 Georgina Hindle - Decanter

"A juicy intensity with bright red fruits, delicate and alive in the glass - friendly but with a salty liquorice kick that gives it some seriousness. Lean and direct but polished and clean on the finish. A touch of lingering heat at the end but this has vibrancy and is well structured with clear bite and power."

94 James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com

"A full and juicy red with blackberry, black olive, dark chocolate, and hazelnut aromas and flavors. Creamy, round and deliciously textured. Not a big and powerful wine but very attractive now and for the future. Seductive in so many way. Merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. Best after 2026."

"Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Elegant and precise nose with distinct fruit, ripe plums, blackberries and black cherries, hints of candied orange zests, violets and mild spices. Subtle oak and fine toasting. On the palate well balanced with silky character, freshness and discreet minerality, backed by juicy fruit and hints of violets again. A wonderful Pomerol with depth and very good length."

93 Wine Enthusiast

"Dominant Merlot in the blend gives this wine both its richness and its smooth texture. Black fruits and generous acidity are sure to develop well. Drink this fine wine from 2026. -RV"

92 Jane Anson - Decanter

"This is pretty tasty; sappy with a ton of black fruits and some attractive biter edging - easily on the best vintages of de Sales that I have tasted. Good salinity and sap on the edges, enjoyable, not too intense with sweet black cherry fruit. A really good job from de Sales, excellent mid palate flesh, something that you don't always find in this wine. A recommended buy, easily staying up with the quality of last year. Jean Claude Berrouet consultant since 2017 for blending and winemaking. Could go up to 93 with the in-bottle tastings. Before 2017 never more than 5% was aged in new oak, now up to 18%, just to again give this a slight weight though the mid palate. No press wine at all for the first time - they felt that they had the weight and depth on the free run juice."

"I loved the 2020 Château De Sales from barrel, and it's showing beautifully from bottle. Sporting a deep purple hue as well as a ripe, sexy, medium to full-bodied style, it has ripe, supple tannins, a layered, balanced mouthfeel, and classic aromatics of ripe black cherries, plums, licorice, spring flowers, and damp earth. It's another beautiful, layered, elegant Pomerol in the vintage that will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and drink brilliantly through 2040."

91 William Kelley - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"An attractive, elegantly fruit-driven Pomerol, the 2020 De Sales offers up aromas of sweet berries, dried herbs and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless palate. With a core of vibrant fruit and melting tannins, this is a success for this large estate, where Jean-Claude Berrouet consults."

Product Description:

"A beautiful glittering crimson, the wine has a complex and seductive nose on aromas of black fruit, especially black cherry, violet and vanilla. Richly flavoured and remarkably well-balanced, it opens with notes of black fruit and subtle spice which fill out on an ample and complex mid-palate sustained by the caress of refined, silky tannins, leading into a long and elegant finish." -Winery
